1. Rooftop terrace of the Círculo de Bellas Artes
The rooftop terrace of the Círculo de Bellas Artes is one of the best known and most appreciated viewpoints in the capital. Located in the heart of Calle Alcalá, just a few steps from Puerta del Sol, from it you can enjoy an unbeatable 365-degree view of the city's urban landscape.
On the rooftop you will also find a unique gastro-cultural space where you can enjoy a drink or a delicious meal while taking in the views.
To make the most of the views you can go up to the top floor and take a glass lift. Tickets can be purchased in the foyer of the Círculo de Bellas Artes and cost €5, €4 if you have a Youth Card.
2. Viewpoint of the Cibeles Palace
In addition to having the Madrid City Hall inside, the Palacio de Cibeles is also open to the public and visiting it is a real pleasure for the eyes. It is located in the Plaza de Cibeles, between Calle de Alcalá, Calle de Montalbán and Paseo del Prado.
For a €3 entrance fee, you can visit the entire Palace and also enjoy the viewpoint on the eighth floor. From there, you will have wonderful views of the Plaza de Cibeles and the entire city centre of the capital.
Its views are similar to those you can see from the rooftop of the Círculo de Bellas Artes but, being less well known, it is likely to be less crowded.
When visiting the Palacio de Cibeles you can also look out onto the Cibeles Terrace on the sixth floor, with a smaller but magnificent view of the Plaza de Cibeles.
3. Viewpoint of the Temple of Debod
In the central part of the Príncipe Pío mountain is one of the best free viewpoints in Madrid, next to the emblematic Temple of Debod.
Next to this piece of Egypt in Madrid you will find a beautiful viewpoint facing the western part of the city. It's completely free to enjoy and the views are spectacular, with the Royal Palace and the Almudena Cathedral standing out.
The Temple of Debod is a very popular destination in the capital, especially in the late afternoon, when one of the best sunsets in the capital can be seen.
4. Ana María Matute Library
The Ana María de Matute Municipal Public Library is located in the San Isidro Park, in Carabanchel. As well as being a great example of unique contemporary architecture, it also offers fantastic panoramic views of Madrid's urban cornice.
Admission to the Ana María Matute Library is free.
5. Almudena Cathedral
Inside the Almudena Cathedral there is a viewpoint from which you can enjoy incredible panoramic views of the centre of Madrid accompanied by impressive architecture decorated with the figures of the 12 apostles.
The Almudena Cathedral is free to visit, but to enjoy the breathtaking views from its dome you will have to pay €6 per ticket, which also gives you access to its museum.
If you visit the dome of the Almudena Cathedral, don't miss the views of the Royal Palace from the balcony halfway up.
6. Moncloa Lighthouse
Standing 92 metres high, the Moncloa Lighthouse was built in 1992, when Madrid was designated European Capital of Culture. With its impressive height, this piece of architecture is visible from all over northwest Madrid and is located just a few metres from the Museum of America; it is situated in the University City of Madrid, in the district of Moncloa-Aravaca.
For just €3 you can enjoy incredible views of the Madrid skyline, the Arco de la Victoria and the Air Force Headquarters.
7. El Corte Inglés de Callao Terrace
The Terraza de El Corte Inglés de Callao, located on the ninth floor, is a very popular option to enjoy incredible views of the Madrid skyline completely free of charge.
This terrace is located in the El Corte Inglés building in Plaza de Callao, right in the centre of Madrid. Here you will find the Gourmet Experience section of restaurants and shops, where you can enjoy a snack and a few drinks.
The only downside of this viewpoint is that due to its popularity, good location and the fact that it is completely free, it tends to be very crowded.
