Flamenco, tradition and Spanish leisure

Enjoy a good vermouth in Barrio de las Letras

Having a vermouth in Madrid at mid-morning is an experience you have to live. It is a tradition that has been established nowadays but which actually goes back many years. In this first activity, we tell you about its origins, the varieties it offers and where to enjoy a good vermouth in the Barrio de las Letras (What to see in the Barrio de las Letras).

If you are thinking of travelling to Madrid (luxury plans in Madrid) and you want to enjoy a good vermouth with a different proposal, we recommend you to visit our restaurant Lobbyto, where you can enjoy a Dry Martini in an atmospheric space, which winks to the glamorous 20's with waiters dressed like the Great Gatsby. You can also listen to good music, eat and watch your vermouth being prepared live.

What types of vermouth are there?

Red vermouth
It is a sweet vermouth in which aromatic herbs such as cinnamon usually stand out. In Spain it is consumed in a less bitter form than in other countries such as Italy and it is the most widely consumed type of vermouth in our country.

White vermouth
This is the sweetest type of vermouth, as a lower level of bitter ingredients is used in its production. It also includes vanilla and citrus ingredients. It is the most widely consumed type of vermouth in the world.

Dry vermouth
Dry vermouth is used especially in cocktails. It is more bitter than red vermouth and often has fruity notes. One of the mistakes that can be found when preparing dry vermouth is too much sugar or too much acidity, as this type of vermouth needs to be balanced.

Rosé Vermouth
This vermouth is the least consumed of the four, although recently the trend has changed and it seems that it is beginning to be consumed at a higher level. It is a smooth vermouth, without bitter touches and where fruity and floral tones dominate.
