This hotel, which dates back to 1886, is currently the oldest in the capital and its walls are home to more than 130 years of history. In fact, in its day, it was the second building in Madrid to have its own lighting.<\/p><p>Its proximity to the Puerta del Sol and the Congress of Deputies was strategic for the hotel's positioning and it is not surprising that at that time many illustrious figures from Spanish cultural and political life frequented the hotel. Nor were there few national and international musicians, bullfighters, writers and painters who stayed in the four walls of the Gran Hotel Ingl\u00e9s. Valle-Incl\u00e1n, Matisse, Virginia Wolf are just some of the personalities listed.
