In Palma, this space is only partially preserved, but it still provides an insight into what life was like in the <b>Medina Mayurqa, <\/b>the Arabic name for the city during the Muslim domination.<\/p><p class=\"p1\">The highlight of the ensemble is the central hall, known as the <b>caldarium<\/b> or hot bath room. This is a square space covered by a semi-spherical brick dome, perforated by small circular openings that let in light in the form of skylights. This room is surrounded by 12 columns with horseshoe arches, the capitals of which are of varying styles because materials from other buildings, possibly of Roman or Islamic origin, were reused.<\/p><p class=\"p2\">The heating system was based on the <b>hypocaust<\/b>The baths, a technique inherited from the Romans: under the floor there was a hollow space through which hot air and steam circulated, creating a humid environment ideal for bathing. An adjoining rectangular room has also been preserved, which was probably used as a <b>tepidarium<\/b> or warm room, covered by a barrel vault.
