Sóller has its roots deeply rooted in the agricultureespecially in the cultivation of oranges which flourished in the 19th century. At that time, the geographical isolation of the valley protected it from outside influence, and the oranges were exported to France via the Port de Sóller, enriching many locals who returned to invest in the construction of impressive modernist buildings that today embellish the centre of the village.
Main Attractions in Sóller
The main square, Constitution Squareis the heart of Sóller. It is full of bars and cafés and is crowned by the most representative view of Sóller: the majestic Sant Bartomeu church. The tram that connects Sóller with the port passes through the centre of this splendid square.
Can PruneraThe Art Nouveau building, a beautifully restored Art Nouveau building, has an attractive selection of works of art, including works by Kandinsky, Picasso, Warhol, as well as local artists such as Miquel Barceló and Francesca Martí, and temporary exhibitions. The Balearic Museum of Natural Sciences and the Botanical Garden are just a short walk from the centre, on the road leading to the harbour.
