The Museo Nacional del Prado is one of Madrid's most emblematic museums and one of the world's leading art galleries. Its extraordinary collection of Spanish art makes it a pillar of the 'Madrid art triangle', along with the Museo Nacional Thyssen-Bornemisza and the Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofía. Founded in 1819, the Prado houses an impressive array of paintings, sculptures, prints and drawings spanning from the 11th century to modern times. With almost nine thousand paintings, a quarter of which are on public display, the museum offers a unique experience for art and culture lovers.
